Brody SOM Welcomes Class of 2011

Brandon Yarns, who receives his coat from Dr. Randy Renegar at the Aug. 10 white coat ceremony, is one of 73 new medical students at the Brody School of Medicine. Yarns is also a Brody Scholar, the top scholarship given by the school. This year’s class is made up of all North Carolina residents representing 24 counties. Thirty-seven are women, 36 are men. They range in age from 20 to 42. Thirteen percent are under-represented minorities. They have undergraduate degrees from 24 different schools, led by the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (19), ECU (14) and N.C. State University (10). Sixteen of the students have graduate degrees. (Photo by Cliff Hollis)
