Noted Scholar to Deliver ECU Voyages Lecture

Marcus Borg, emeritus professor at Oregon State University, will deliver the Jarvis Lecture in the 2008-2009 Thomas Harriot College of Arts and Sciences’ Voyages of Discovery Lecture Series.


Borg will speak on “Christians in the Age of Empire,” in Wright Auditorium at 7 p.m., on Nov. 18.

Known as one of the leading historical Jesus scholars of his generation, Borg is the author of 10 books, two of which have become bestsellers: “Jesus: a New Vision” and “Meeting Jesus Again for the First Time.”

He has lectured widely in the U.S. and overseas, and his books have been translated into many languages, including German, Dutch, Korean, Russian and French.

The Jarvis Lecture is sponsored by Jarvis Memorial United Methodist Church and the Harriot College of Arts and Sciences Religious Studies program.
