ECU Biologist Awarded Fisheries Society Honor

Roger Rulifson, a professor of biology at East Carolina University, received the Meritorious Service Award from the American Fisheries Society this summer for his 30-year service to the organization.

Rulifson, in addition to his mentoring, research, and publishing activities, is credited with developing two conferences for the society that focus on specific fish species, the first in 1986; the second in 2007. He has been the advisor of the ECU American Fisheries Society Student Subunit since 1998, and directs thesis and dissertation research.

The award is presented to an individual for loyalty, dedication, and meritorious service to the Society throughout the years; and for exceptional commitment to AFS programs, ideals, objectives, and goals.

In March, Rulifson also was awarded the Outstanding Achievement Award given by the Southern Division of the Society.
