Exhibition Set for April 14

The East Carolina University School of Communication will host its sixth annual 2008 Oratorical Exhibition April 14 at 6:30 p.m. in Hendrix Theatre.

The program provides an opportunity for students to practice and demonstrate their oratorical skills with five- to seven-minute speeches on a topic related to the exhibition theme. This year’s theme is “Where I stand.”

Participants are the best student speakers selected from School of Communication courses in public speaking or business and professional communication. Pam Hopkins, School of Communication instructor, said the exhibition provides an excellent opportunity for both speakers and the audience, by demonstrating that public speaking skills – done well – can have an impact. Speakers also benefit from increased self-confidence and self-esteem, she said.

“Our student participants learn about taking and using criticism, combating stage fright, and working well under pressure,” Hopkins said.
