Orientation Set for Faculty

By Erica Plouffe Lazure

East Carolina University’s Center for Faculty Excellence will host a weeklong orientation for new faculty members Aug. 11 through Aug. 15.

About 120 new faculty members, both tenure track and fixed term, are expected to attend the program, said Dorothy Muller, director for the Center for Faculty Excellence.

“The goal is to help our new faculty members make a smooth transition to East Carolina,” Muller said. “We want them to feel comfortable and we want to retain them.”

Registration and a reception will be held at 4 p.m. Aug. 11 at Joyner Library. Topics throughout the week will include human resources, parking issues, library information, online teaching and syllabus overviews, technological availabilities, safety issues, and creative research and activity. An evening at the Student Recreation Center will be held for new faculty members and their families Aug. 13. On Aug. 15, new faculty members will have lunch with ECU chancellor Steve Ballard and key university leaders.

A schedule of events and more information can be found at

Programs about other topics will be offered throughout the year, Muller said.
