By John Durham

Julie L. Poorman, a veteran administrator of student financial services, has been named director of financial aid at East Carolina University.

Poorman

Poorman joined ECU on Aug. 1 from Berklee College of Music in Boston, where she served as director of the Office of Student Financial Aid.

Previously she had been director of state scholarship administration for the Maryland Higher Education Commission and director of the Office of Admissions and Student Financial Aid at Eastern New Mexico University.

She also served as an administrator in the Office of Student Financial Aid at Iowa State University.

Dr. Judi Bailey, senior executive director of enrollment management at ECU, said, “We are delighted to have a leader of Julie Poorman’s experience and ability join us in this critical position. About 65 percent of our students receive financial aid, and they will benefit from her expertise and insight.”

Poorman holds a bachelor’s degree in political science and a master’s in public administration, both from Iowa State. She is a frequent presenter at financial aid conferences and workshops and a nationally known trainer of other financial aid professionals.
