Morton, Griffin Publish Text On Construction Management

ECU’s Construction Management department members co-authored, “Quality & Construction: How to Develop a Quality Management System for Your Construction Firm” (BNi Building News, 2008).

Danny Morton, an instructor of construction management, and Katy Griffin, lab supervisor for ECU’s construction management lab, wrote the step-by-step book that outlines effective project management, administration, and effectiveness in construction management. Jack Patterson of Western Carolina University is a co-author.

The book includes details and examples, as well as a complete quality manual that focuses on construction companies but can be adapted for any company seeking to define and control its processes. Used in ECU’s construction management classes, the book can help students understand the importance of a quality management system in the construction industry.

“The intention of the book is to simplify understanding about a quality management system and the requirements of the International Organization of Standardization,” Morton said. “The book focuses on small- to mid-sized construction companies and contractors who need to implement a system to help them keep their company organized and profitable by streamlining and documenting work processes associated with construction.”
