State Employees Combined Campaign Features Online Pledge Site

East Carolina University's annual State Employees Combined Campaign is under way for 2009, with a Nov. 6 deadline for contributions. ECU's 2009 goal is $200,000.

A new feature of this year's program is the SECC ePledge Web site, which allows contributors to complete the entire pledge process through a secure online system.

The online option streamlines paperwork involved with the donation process, while providing a record of contributions, including specific amounts and selected charities. Employees may search for their favorite charities on the site, and opt to receive acknowledgement of their donation from the chosen charity.

A personalized link to the ePledge site was distributed to all employees through an e-mail from secc@ecu.edu. Contributions may be made by payroll deduction, check, credit card or cash. Payroll deductions for contributions will begin in January 2010. For those who prefer to pay by check, credit card or cash, the e-Pledge page provides instructions on how to forward the donation to the team leader.

Traditional paper contribution forms may still be used and are available from team leaders.

ECU Chancellor Steve Ballard has encouraged ECU faculty and staff to participate in the campaign to help their neighbors, in spite of difficult economic times. In an e-mail to employees, Ballard said, "I am asking that each of us consider carefully our ability to contribute. Since the year 2000, the number of ECU employees contributing to the campaign has decreased from 42.5 to 15.2 percent; and the amount of funds raised has dropped from a high of $225,557 in 2005 to $175,943 in 2008.

"We realize that when economic struggles arise, it is the disenfranchised who suffer most," he said, "and we will continue to use the SECC as a means by which we can reach out in compassion to those in need."

Even if choosing not to make a donation this year, employees should complete the ePledge form so that their opportunity for participation is recorded.

Coordinating this year's campaign are Sharon Bland, chair, and Adeea Rogers, vice chair, on the east campus; and Tom Irons, chair, and Kit Roberson, vice chair, on the west campus.
