ECU Chemist Recognized for Leadership

East Carolina University chemistry professor Anne Spuches received a Leadership Development Award from the Younger Chemists Committee of the American Chemical Society.

As one of 15 recipients, Spuches will participate at no cost in the YCC Leadership Development Workshop in Fort Worth, Texas in January. The workshop provides opportunities to learn, network and develop personal plans for improving leadership skills.

“I am very honored to receive the award, and I believe it falls in line with the university’s mission of leadership and service,” said Spuches. “I have enjoyed teaching here at ECU. I especially love the fact that I can be a mentor to undergraduate and graduate students not only in the classroom but in my research laboratory.”

Spuches joined ECU in 2007 after completing four years of postdoctoral research at Dartmouth College. She earned her PhD in chemistry from Yale University and her BS degree in chemistry from Syracuse University.
