GOVERNOR VISITS ECU: Gov. Beverly Perdue, left, joined Susanne Sartelle, center, president of the Greenville-Pitt County Chamber of Commerce, and ECU Chancellor Steve Ballard at an Eastern North Carolina Small Business Roundtable on campus Nov. 22. More than 30 business owners and leaders from the Pitt County area questioned Perdue about state government rules and regulations that may hinder small businesses. Cabinet secretaries Lanier Cansler, Department of Health and Human Services, and Dee Freeman, Department of Environment and Natural Resources, as well as Jim Trogdon, chief operating officer of the N.C. Department of Transportation, were among the state officials who attended. The governor said she knows it will be “a hard budget session” when the General Assembly convenes in January, but her “priorities have to be wrapped around job opportunities and growing jobs and education.” (Photo by Cliff Hollis)
