Lectures, Exhibition Planned for September

The East Carolina University School of Art and Design art education area has planned two events for September.

An exhibition and lecture will feature the work of Steve McGuire from the University of Iowa. On display in Burroughs Wellcome Gallery through Sept. 4, the Steve McGuire Exhibition will track his study of the elevation profiles of the major climbs for a primitive and remote route of single track and jeep trails running from Banff, Alberta, to Antelope Wells, N.M. (the Mexico border), back and forth across the Continental Divide.

McGuire will speak about his adventures at 5 p.m. Sept. 2, in 1220 Jenkins Fine Arts Center.

On Sept. 21, scholar Mark Runco, from the Torrance Center at the University of Georgia, will speak on creativity. Runco was cited in Newsweek magazine this summer (July 10) on the creativity crisis, in which research shows that American creativity is declining. Available at http://www.newsweek.com/2010/07/10/the-creativity-crisis.html, the article addresses what went wrong and what can be done to fix it. Runco will speak at 5 p.m. in 1220 Jenkins Fine Arts Center.
