Showfety elected chair of ECU board

Stephen D. Showfety, president of the Koury Corp. in Greensboro, was elected chair of the East Carolina University Board of Trustees today.

Showfety, an ECU alumnus and a member of the board since 1999, has served two one-year terms as vice chair. “What a great opportunity we all have,” he said. “My goal is to be proactive, not reactive. I want to be involved in helping to realize the goals of the university.”

Showfety succeeds Jim Talton, a Raleigh civic leader, who served the maximum two terms allowed by board rules.

Other officers elected were Bob Greczyn, vice chair, and Michael J. Kelly, secretary.

Greczyn is president and chief executive officer of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina, and Kelly is a Nags Head restaurateur.
