Bowles to address ECU commencement Dec. 16

Erskine Bowles, president of the University of North Carolina system, will be the featured speaker at East Carolina University’s fall commencement of Dec. 16.

The ceremony honoring 3,223 degree candidates, will begin at 10 a.m. in Minges Coliseum. A musical performance will begin at 9:30 a.m.

ECU Chancellor Steve Ballard said he is excited to welcome Bowles to the campus.

“Our graduates are tomorrow’s leaders, and I know each of them will make a difference in the lives of their loved ones and their communities,” Ballard said.

“President Bowles has a sterling reputation as a leader in private enterprise, public service, and now in higher education. I can think of no better speaker to deliver a message that will help these graduates become leaders in ways that match their interests and abilities.”

In addition to the university ceremony, many colleges and departments have scheduled individual recognition ceremonies Dec. 14 and 15.

Details about ECU commencement, including the departmental graduation schedule, are available at http://www.ecu.edu/commencement/index.cfm.
