Management's Responsibilities


The Role of Management

A good safety and environmental program makes good business sense because it can save the institution considerable money on lawsuits, regulatory violation penalties and workers' compensation. The institution has a legal responsibility under OSHA law to provide a safe workplace to its employees. Management commitment is the key to any safety and environmental program. If management is not committed to the program, it cannot be successful. Management has the following responsibilities:

  • Demonstrate commitment to the program through hiring qualified EH&S staff and providing the necessary resources
  • Provide leadership by displaying proper attitudes and making safety and environmental compliance an essential priority of the University
