Student Patrol


Student Patrol is a unit within the East Carolina University Police Department which is comprised of approximately 30 student patrol officers (SPOs) which work between the hours of 6:00 pm and 12:00 am. The SPOs work in excess of 25 hours per week. They also work special events, including athletic events.

The Student Patrol Officers provide additional security to the campus by:

  • Patrolling and/or Securing:
    • Academic buildings
    • Administrative buildings
    • Residence halls
    • Medical School/Health Sciences Complex
    • Athletic Complex
    • Bicycle racks
  • Providing weekly checks of the Emergency Blue-Light Phones
  • Reporting suspicious activity to the ECU Police Department.
  • Providing safety escorts(walking or riding) as requested through the ECU Police Department or SafeRide

To request a safety escort after 7pm, call (252) 328-6787.

When calling please be prepared to provide the following information:

  1. Your name;
  2. your location at the time of the call;
  3. a phone number where you can be reached; and
  4. your destination.

Please call 15 minutes before you wish to be picked up. Student Patrol Officers will provide safety escorts anywhere on-campus.

Student Patrol has four positions available.  Go to https://ecu.peopleadmin.com/ to apply.  Click on Student Positions and look for Student Patrol with the ECU Police Department.  The positions will be posted through 09/17/2014.  You must be a sophomore or higher and have a 2.5 gpa or higher to become a Student Patrol Officer.
