    Key Capital and Operating priorities for 2009-20011 include the following: CAPITAL Life Sciences and Biotechnology Building: Request $15,160,000 in planning funds for the design and construction of a new life chances and biotechnology building at East Carolina University. OPERATING Indigent Care: ECU’s Brody School of Medicine requests $3,000,000 in recurring state appropriated funds for FY 2010 and an additional $2,000,000 in recurring funds for FY 2011. School of Dentistry: Request $6,000,000 in state appropriations for FY 2010 and an additional $8,000,000 in FY 2011. This funding will assist in the implementation of the new school of dentistry.The funding will allow the school to hire faculty/staff, develop the curriculum, and establish the service learning centers. ECU Heart Institute: Request $300,000 in operating funds to help improve preventive and interventional measures for patients who are already symptomatic of cardiovascular disease. Medical School Expansion: Request $2,000,000 in recurring state appropriated funds for FY 2010 and an additional $2,000,000 for FY 2011 to support the planning and initial implementation of medical student class size at the Brody School of Medicine and UNC Chapel Hill School of Medicine. The funds will be split equally between the two schools. The legislative priorities above were approved by the UNC Board of Governors in November 2008.
