

Claretha Parker received the Treasured Pirate Award for Outstanding Delivery of Service. She transferred to Brody Mail Services in November 2010 and was a key contributor to the success of the department in April 2011. During that month, when Brody Mail Services was short-staffed due to a medical leave situation, Claretha worked extra hard to make sure that Mail Services didn't fall short of fulfilling its mission. She stands as an ideal example of true resilience and efficiency in the workplace.

Dionte Askew, Bulk Mail supervisor, received the Treasured Pirate Award for Leadership. He keeps Bulk Mail moving and is a valuable asset to University Printing and Graphics. Dionte understands the importance of delivering the mail on time when customers require a drop dead date. He is always willing to lend a hand elsewhere when his area is slow.

Diane Rogers, sales manager at Dowdy Student Stores, received the Treasured Pirate Award for Display of Initiative. Diane provided an outstanding customer service recently when she went to the storeroom on the opposite side of the store, dug through a large stack of yearbooks until she found the one from 1953, and brought it back to a customer so she could look up photos of her father. She truly went above and beyond to help this customer, even making copies of the pages the customer's father was pictured on. The customer was so touched that she wrote a note to thank Diane for her efforts.

Laverne Clark, an administrative support associate with Dowdy Student Stores, received the Treasured Pirate Award for Enhancing Employee Morale. Her outstanding attitude, personality and work ethic can't help but rub off on others in the main office area where Laverne spends her time. Her duties include entering product and merchandise information into the point-of-sale system, inventory maintenance, greeting customers and visitors, and assisting with answering the store switchboard.

John Palmer received the Treasured Pirate Award for Effective Leadership. As merchandise manager at Dowdy Student Stores, John selects and orders apparel and gifts for the store and supervises staff in the customer service, apparel and gift departments. He also oversees stadium sales at football games and other ECU athletic events.

John Williams received the Treasured Pirate Award for Display of Initiative or Creativity. As customer service/night manager at Dowdy Student Stores, he supervises student staff on nights and weekends, maintains the point-of-sale system, trains new employees on cash register sales, and coordinates the textbook reservation program. His creative promotions of the textbook reservation program during summer orientation were cited as reasons for the award. "The signs, window displays, brochures and promotional table he uses have really helped increase our reservations," said Bryan Tuten, interim store manager.

Katherine Burney received the Treasured Pirate Award for Delivery of Service. As textbook manager at Dowdy Student Stores, she makes sure that students and faculty have the textbooks and course materials they need when classes begin. This process involves constant communication with faculty and publishers.

Sue Faircloth, manager of the Brody Medical Bookstore, received the Treasured Pirate Award for Effective Leadership. She was cited for her professionalism and insight on long-range planning.

A five-member team from Materials Management received the Treasured Pirate award in recognition of their work in installing a new software program, the Property Equipment Tracking System (PETS). PETS is the new surplus property tracking system for ECU. Pictured from left are: Nellie Taylor, Deidra Williams, Tim Daughtry, Chuck Boulineau, Lisa Ross, Jane Manning, and Scott Buck.

Danny Langley, a press operator with Bindery and Finishing Services at University Printing & Graphics, received the Treasured Pirate Award for the repair work he did on UP&G's laminator. He found all the parts he needed locally and was able to complete the repairs for $14, allowing Rapid Copy to meet all of its lamination deadlines.

Doug Creel received the Treasured Pirate Award for his efforts to improve ECU's vending services and his strong work ethic. He stocks and services the majority of snack and food vending machines at ECU. He is also responsible for keeping accurate inventories of product as well as cash accounting and training of new employees.
Shonda Clemons, second from left, and Iris Harper, second from right, received the Treasured Pirate Award for their leadership and dedication in the successful implementation of the mail stop system on campus. This involved making sure each mail stop was properly identified in the mail office, at the mail delivery location and in the banner system. Shonda is West Campus Mail Center supervisor.
