Suggestion:
Many staff members have concerns regarding the cost of parking and the insufficient amount of spaces available for staff and faculty. There should be separate parking for faculty/staff and students. I know we want to 'go green' but I feel that for those of us who commute a great distance to work should not also have to pay a premium and then have to walk a distance to their building. What are we paying for?

Thank you for taking the time to send us your comments. By state law, parking receives no state funds for operating, maintenance, and development costs. Parking is required to be self- supporting and to plan for the future. All funds to provide the parking service must come from parking permits and user fees. Parking permits are issued for specific zone areas that are for specific parking groups. Among these groups are Faculty/Staff, resident students, and commuting students. Permits are only sold to the maximum of 10% over actual spaces.
All universities are faced or have dealt with the same issues on parking locations. As more and more central campus land resources are used for academic buildings and offices, parking has been pushed back to the outskirts of campus or even to off campus locations. At ECU, with the master plan, more parking will be removed from core campus.
ECU is offering green alternatives to campus to those who can utilize them. We are continually monitoring traffic flow and occupancy levels to adjust and more efficiently manage our limited parking resources.

Suggestion:
I enjoy my job as a Housekeeper but I have a suggestion regarding the work shifts. I work every weekend and I feel like we have enough housekeepers so that we can rotate shifts and have off every other weekend, or at least one weekend off per month. Another suggestion is that instead of working 7:30 am to 4:30 pm on the weekend we could work 6:00 am to 3:00 pm. Thanks for allowing me this opportunity to make an anonymous suggestion.

This has been discussed and considered a couple of different times over the years, and we feel this is the best and most efficient schedule to complete the desired results. We prefer having an uninterrupted and dedicated work force during the week as well as during the weekend. When you accept the position as a weekend Residence Hall housekeeper you accept it with the understanding that you will work weekends, with two consecutive days off during the week. Weekend employees have the opportunity to move off the weekend schedule as Monday thru Friday employees retire, leave, or are dismissed.

The first shift in Housekeeping is very short-staffed. We really need additional help.

I agree, due to budget cuts the department is working with fewer staff members. The department is working on a daily task reduction that we hope will make tasks more manageable.
