Minutes of December 14, 2006

                       I.     Attendance:

                     II.     Call to Order

 

Senator Cobb welcomed everyone and called the meeting to order at 3:30 p.m.

 

                  III.     Special Order of the Day

                       

                              A.     Roll Call/Ice Breaker:

 

Senators Dunn asked the Staff Senators to introduce themselves by stating their name, department, and favorite holiday song.

 

                               B.     Minutes of November 16, 2006

 

Senator Daniels reported that the minutes from the November 16, 2006 Staff Senate meeting were distributed to the members and via Announce and Health Sciences Announce. Senator Barnette noted that her name was misspelled on the Rewards and Recognition Committee minutes that were attached to the Staff Senate meeting minutes.

 

The minutes were approved with the correction.

 

 

IV. Comments from the Executive Committee

 

                              A.     Comments from the Chair, Leigh Cobb

 

Senator Cobb reported that the Bone Marrow Drive in memory of Lynn Burroughs was very successful. We had 63 people to enroll in the bone marrow bank.

 

                           Senator Mardie Bullock will be retiring the end of December. An Alternate          Senator will assume her seat and will be in place by the January meeting.

 

                               B.     Comments from the Chair-Elect, Tandy Dunn

 

No report.

 

                               C.     Comments from the Secretary, Christy Daniels

 

No report.

 

                              D.     Comments from the Treasurer, Judy Tucker

 

Senator Tucker distributed a financial report for December 2006 which included refreshments for November. Senator Tucker thanked everyone who brought food for the Staff Senate Holiday Social.

                                

V.   Monthly Updates and Reports

 

A.   Committee Reports

 

1.     Communications & Marketing – Jennifer Johnson, Chair

 

The committee did not meet therefore there was no report. Senator Johnson did pass out the New Staff Orientation Committee Assignments list. She requested that at least 2 committee members sign up for each session just in case one of the committee members can’t attend at the last minute. She also reported that the Staff Senate t-shirts should be available by the second week of January.

 

2.     Diversity – Doreen Strayhorn, Chair

 

The committee did not meet therefore there was no report.

 

3.     Human Resource Services Committee – Wayne Reeves, Chair

 

See attached committee minutes.

 

 

4.     Rewards & Recognition, Amanda Johnson, Chair

 

See attached committee minutes.

 

 

VI.       Old Business:

 

            Senator Strayhorn requested that at a future meeting that an update on the     proposed Smoking Policy be given.

 

VII.       New Business

 

A.   Appointment of the Membership Committee

 

Senator Cobb reported that the Membership Committee needs to be appointed. The Executive Committee met and decided that one representative from each committee needs to be appointed to the Membership Committee. The Executive Committee appointed Pat Cox from the Diversity Committee, Vickie Glover from the Human Resources Committee, Amanda Turner from the Rewards and Recognition Committee, and Johnnie Eastwood from the Communications and Marketing Committee. Tandy Dunn and Leigh Cobb will serve as representatives from the Executive Committee with Christy Daniels as an alternate representative. Senator Cobb noted that 3 additional volunteers are needed to serve on the Membership Committee. Senator Cobb requested that interested volunteers to serve on the Membership Committee should contact her.

 

VIII.     Announcements

 

                                   A.     Next Staff Senate Meeting will be held on January 18, 2007 from 3:30 – 5:00 p.m., in the Willis Building Auditorium.

 

IX.       Adjournment

Senator Cobb thanked everyone and adjourned the meeting for the Staff Senate Social.
