About Gail Jordan
Gail Jordan is remembered as an energetic person who enjoyed helping others.
Jordan spent 36 years as a state employee. After four years with the N.C. Department of Revenue, she was hired in 1973 as a secretary in the Office of the Vice Chancellor of Business Affairs at East Carolina University. Following a short-lived move to Raleigh with her husband, Jordan returned to ECU in 1975.
Jordan spent the rest of her career as ECU, rising to the job of assistant to the chancellor in 2004. Upon retiring in 2005, she received the ECU's Founders Day award for her service to the university. She returned to ECU in 2006 temporarily as assistant to Kevin Seitz, then the vice chancellor for administration and finance.
Although Jordan's life was cut short by breast cancer at the age of 57, the impact of Gail's work and life at ECU lives on. As Abraham Lincoln noted, "In the end, it's not the years in your life that count; it's the life in your years." Gail put a lot of "life" in her years at ECU, and it's in her memory that we are establishing the Staff Senate/Gail Jordan Memorial Scholarship Fund.
Purpose of the Fund
The purpose of the Fund is to provide scholarships to full-time SHRA, CSS, and non-faculty EHRA employees who are taking either undergraduate or graduate level courses at East Carolina University, in memory of Gail Jordan, a long-serving ECU staff employee with ties to all levels of the university.
The intent of the scholarship is to cover the expenses for one or more courses (tuition, fees and books) to a staff employee after the employee has exhausted his/her eligibility for tuition free courses for that academic year.
