The Accounting Department encourages and supports an environment where students can acquire both applied and theoretical knowledge of the various accounting fields. As a member of the East Carolina University Community, the department provides courses in accounting as a service for both undergraduate and graduate non-accounting majors. Our primary purpose is to provide general professional accounting education leading to careers in both the public and private sectors.

For careers in general accounting, the program provides practical education in various areas such as managerial accounting, internal auditing, and governmental accounting. This program develops an excellent foundation for other business areas and for graduate studies in such areas as Business Administration, Public Administration and Health Care Management. The more traditional focus for careers in public accounting or advanced placement in industry is fulfilled via the graduate program's Masters of Science (MSA) in Accounting.
