||Margy Conchar joined the Department of Marketing and Supply Chain Management at East Carolina University in 2003. Dr. Conchar completed her doctoral degree in Business Administration, major in Marketing, at the University of Georgia's Terry College of Business. Her research focuses on consumer behavior, marketing strategy and advertising. Her work in consumer behavior concentrates on risk, motives, and optimal consumption experience/ well-being. Her research in advertising focuses on the interface between advertising and finance, accounting, or economics. She has previously published in the Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science, Journal of Applied Business Research and in numerous proceedings of national educators' conferences. She has also consulted in a service capacity on marketing strategy development/ planning and research studies for local businesses and not-for-profit organizations.
Prior to commencing her doctoral studies, Dr. Conchar gained extensive business experience in South Africa and London, UK, in marketing research and management, and in advertising. Her work experience includes: service on strategic planning and product development teams in consumer goods manufacturing and retail industries. She has completed over 600 commissioned research studies. Areas of focus include marketing information systems, retail audits (A.C. Nielsen), forecasting, product development, strategic planning, media and consumer omnibus surveys, town planning, retail research, social research, consumer panel development, advertising client service, media planning. These were carried out in the fields of government, education, insurance and banking, consumer goods, motor, advertising and retail (food, department stores and durables) fields. Employers and clients include the Gillette Company, BBDO Advertising, British American Tobacco Co. Ltd., Eli Lilly, Alfa Romeo, Nedfin Bank, Old Mutual Insurance Co., Ford and the British Central Office of Information.
