Dr. Rebecca G. Fay, CPA, joined the faculty as an assistant professor in Fall 2011 after earning her PhD from Virginia Tech. She is a licensed CPA and has seven years of experience in public accounting. She worked as an audit manager with Cherry Bekaert before returning to academia.
Becky's primary research interests are enhancing the quality of audits and accounting education. She received ECU's Scholar-Teacher Award in 2015 for the outstanding integration of research in the classroom. Her work has been featured on the cover of the Journal of Accountancy, and has been published in Issues in Accounting Education, the CPA Journal, Managerial Auditing Journal, Current Issues in Auditing, and Research in Accounting Regulation. She frequently presents her research at the American Accounting Association Audit Midyear meeting and Annual conference.
In addition to her research on auditing, Becky was the lead author on "Incorporating International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) into Intermediate Accounting," a textbook supplement developed by a team of authors from Virginia Tech that has been implemented in classrooms across the country. She has provided IFRS training seminars to accountants and professors, and has contributed IFRS questions to the CPA exam.
Becky's husband Patrick also works for ECU as the Marketing and Communications Manager for Enrollment Services. The couple enjoys spending time with their two children, Erin and Wilson.
