Graduate Assistantships

The College of Business (CoB) offers graduate assistantships assisting professors in research or course administration, or providing support in the CoB computer lab.  The assistantships are awarded based on GMAT score and academic achievement.  Awarding of assistantships is based on funding and need and changes from semester to semester.  All students who apply for a graduate assistantship may not receive one.  Part and full time students are eligible to apply for a graduate assistantship.  Teaching assistantships are not available.

Students must apply for a graduate assistantship each semester and summer session even if they currently have a graduate assistantship.  Application for graduate assistantships is completed through E-Recruiting.  Students must register with the CoB Career Services to have access to E-Recruiting.  Information about registering with CoB Career Services can be found online at http://www.ecu.edu/business/careers/.  Applications for 1SS and 2SS 2008  will be accepted beginning March 12, 2008.

Graduate assistantships (GA) are typically awarded in 10 to 20 hour increments.  Students who receive a 20 hour graduate assistantship in one semester are not guaranteed a 20 hour GA in following semesters.  Students must receive satisfactory performance evaluations to retain their graduate assistantship from semester to semester.

10-Hour Graduate Assistantship
     (10 hrs/week – total of 150 hrs/semester - $1875 per semester)

There is a mandatory graduate assistantship meeting each semester that all College of Business graduate assistants must attend.  This is applicable to new graduate assistants and those who have received a graduate assistantship in previous semesters.  All students receiving a COB graduate assistantship must attend the COB graduate assistantship meeting or risk losing their assistantship.   Upcoming mandatory graduate assistant meeting dates are as follows:

Summer 2008 – Monday, May 19, 2008
Fall 2008 – Tuesday, August 19, 2008

Graduate assistantships begin on the day drop/add registration begins and end with the last day of exams.  Graduate assistants are not expected to work holidays or during student breaks; however, they are expected to work through the last day of exams.  Employment dates for upcoming semesters and summer sessions are as follows:

1SS 2008 – May 19 to June 25, 2008
2SS 2008 – June 25 to August 1, 2008
Fall 2008 – Tuesday, August 19, 2008

Recipients of a COB Graduate Assistantship agree not to accept any other employment without the approval of the Assistant Dean for Graduate Programs.  If a graduate assistant has additional employment outside the College of Business, the graduate assistant will be expected to make their College of Business graduate assistantship a priority over outside job responsibilities.

Note that graduate assistantships are independent of tuition waivers.  Additional information concerning graduate assistantships may be obtained from the CoB Graduate Programs office in 3203 Bate Building or by emailing gradbus@ecu.edu.
