Graduate Assistantships

The College of Business (CoB) offers graduate assistantships assisting professors in research or course administration, or providing support in the COB computer lab.  Graduate assistantships (GA) are typically awarded in 10 to 20 hour increments.  Students must be enrolled as full-time (9 semester hours/3 classes), with at least one face to face class during a fall or spring semester to be eligible for a graduate assistantship.  Students do not have to be enrolled during summer sessions to be eligible for a graduate assistantship.

Students must submit a separate application for each term (fall, spring, 1st summer session;2nd summer session) that they wish to be considered for a graduate assistantship. In addition, students must apply each term even if they currently have a graduate assistantship. The graduate assistantship application can be found online at
http://www.ecu.edu/cs-bus/gradasstapply.cfm. A current resume is required to be uploaded with the online application. Students will be notified via email if/when they are awarded a graduate assistantship. All students who apply for a graduate assistantship may not receive one. Early application is recommended.

Teaching Assistantships

Teaching assistantships positions are very competitive as a limited number of positions are available.  Teaching  assistants are responsible for working as a member of a team to lead weekly laboratory sessions that are part of BUSI 2200 which is designed to build interpersonal communication and teamwork skills for sophomore majors in the College of Business.  The positions are ideal for MBA students who are considering teaching or working in Human Resources, Training or Organizational Development in a business setting as a career path.  Teaching assistants are typically expected to work 20 hours per week during Fall and Spring semesters and are paid about $9900 per academic year (fall and spring).

Tuition Remissions     Top

A very limited number of out-of-state tuition waivers are available on a competitive basis (a GMAT score of 650 or more is need to even be considered).  The out-of-state tuition waiver covers the difference in tuition between in-state and out-of-state rates.  Preferential consideration will be given to students who have been accepted by the College of Business of East Carolina University by July 1 for Fall semester enrollment and by November 1 for Spring semester enrollment.  Applications received after that date will be considered for a waiver only if funds are available.  Students are automatically considered for this waiver when they are accepted; no additional application is required.

If you are awarded a Tuition Remission:

Please review the document Tuition Remission Information which is an informational statement regarding the awarding of tuition remissions, and most importantly, the consequences of student actions with respect to adding/dropping courses at various times of the academic semester.

Federal Financial Aid      Top

The Financial Aid Department is independent of the College of Business and all student loans must be processed through that office.  If you are seeking financial assistance for your graduate studies, it is best to start the process early.  Graduate students must be enrolled in at least five (5) semester hours to be eligible to receive financial aid during a fall or spring semester.  Graduate students must be enrolled in at least five (5) semester hours (five s.h. in one session or three s.h. in each session) to be eligible for aid during summer sessions.

Be sure to let the Financial Aid Officer know if you intend to take all of your classes online as that, among other things, may have an effect on your financial aid award.

Only students who are admitted to the University as degree seeking students are eligible for financial aid.  Students who are admitted to the University as non-degree seeking students are not eligible for financial aid.

If you receive financial aid during your graduate program, you are required to complete a Financial Aid Exit Survey during your last semester and prior to graduation.  Likewise, you are required to complete the Exit Survey if you drop below half-time status.  Students enrolled at less than half-time status are not eligible for financial aid.  You may have a hold tag for "Exit Survey" on you record even if you are not graduating.  This occurs due to late registration or only registering for one class for the coming semester.  If you have an "Exit Survey" hold tag on your record and plan to be at least half-time for next semester, you must email faques@ecu.edu to notify financial aid of your intentions.  Students requiring only one class in the semester of graduation are not eligible for financial aid.  The Exit Survey may be completed at www.mappingyourfuture.org.
