In the College of Business, not only do we teach our students the "nuts and bolts" of business, we also hone the skills essential for success in the business world, including leadership skills, communication skills, and professionalism, through our unique Leadership and Professional Development Program.  While we set the bar high, we also provide the support every step of the way.

Network Support Team

Each student benefits from a personalized support team ready to help, including an academic advisor, career advisor, and communication advisor.  Much of this support can be found under one roof, in our own Center for Student Success, which houses Academic Advising, the Business Communication Center, and the Career Center.  You also have access to peer mentors - select students in the College of Business who can give you important advice on everything from which electives to take to where things are found on campus.  The help you need is easy to find!

Specialized Leadership Courses

During each of a student's four years, specialized courses provide important insight into today's business world and necessary skills to be competitive.  The freshman course Strategy First is an exciting class that touches on all areas of business by using Business Week magazine as the course textbook.  Thanks to a generous endowment from RBC Bank, Strategy First course materials are provided free of charge to students. Subsequent hands-on leadership courses and labs instill valuable teamwork skills, enhance your professional development, and hone your leadership abilities - all critical to success in the 21st century.

Leadership Portfolio

Active reinforcement and self-reflection are essential components of learning.  During their time in the College of Business, students create an ePortfolio that showcases their personal leadership development and their achievements.  By developing an ePortfolio, students complement the leadership course material, learn about the importance of actively managing their online presence/professional digital identities, and lay the foundation for actively engaging in online career networking. By the time they graduate, students have tangible evidence of their accomplishments in a professional, multidimensional online format that provides crucial information to potential employers.

Learning the "Nuts and Bolts"

In addition to learning vital 21st-century skills, our students receive top-notch training in technical business material.  Our faculty offer excellent preparation for various careers in business with concentrations in accounting, finance, management, management information systems, and marketing and supply chain management.  In fact, since 1967, the College of Business has been continuously accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business International (AACSB), the premier accrediting agency of collegiate business schools worldwide.
