College of Business Peer Mentors

We encourage all qualified College of Business students to apply for a leadership position as a Peer Mentor. The position offers a great working environment, flexible scheduling, supportive management, and an excellent opportunity to build and improve your leadership skills.  Peer Mentors serve for one academic year (fall & spring semesters) and assist in creating an environment that is academically and socially successful for business students just entering the program.


JOB DESCRIPTION

Application Deadline: 5pm - Feb 6, 2015 (to serve Fall 2015 and Spring 2016)

Position: Peer Mentor
Reports to: Amy Eason, College of Business Advisor

Scope: Serve as a mentor/role model to first year business students by participating in events targeted toward first year students (Orientation, Welcome Hoopla, Taking Care of Business, Open House, Advising Workshops, & other programs).  Mentors will hold weekly office hours and meet with students as indicated and will be responsible for record keeping involved with student contact/office appointments.  Mentors encourage active involvement in university and College of Business activities and organizations, serve as positive role models for Mentees, and share experiences and knowledge they have gained as students at ECU.

Mentors will develop and implement programs for first-year business students within and outside of the College of Business Living Learning Community.

Requirements: Students who have achieved academic success and have demonstrated strong leadership and communication skills can serve as Mentors.
 

UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS:

  • Minimum overall GPA of 3.0
  • Completion of 60 credit hours (by August of 2015)
  • 2 semesters completed at ECU
  • 2 semesters remaining at ECU
  • Declaration of Concentration in the College of Business (by Aug 2015)
  • Involvement in campus/community service
  • In good standing with the Office of Student Rights and Responsibilities
  • Full time status (at least 12 hours)
  • Attend a 3-day, 2-night Peer Mentor training retreat the week before classes begin in August and assist with welcome programs.

GRADUATE STUDENTS:

  • Minimum overall GPA of 3.0
  • 1 semester of graduate coursework completed at ECU
  • 2 semesters of graduate coursework remaining at ECU
  • In good standing with the Office of Student Rights and   Responsibilities
  • Full time status (at least 9 hours)
  • Attend a 3-day, 2-night Peer Mentor training retreat the week before classes begin in August and assist with welcome programs.

Stipend: $500 per semester (not including summer school)

Eligibility: Once selected, you must meet these standards in order to continue as a Mentor.
  • Must maintain a 3.0 GPA
  • Must remain in good standing with the university
  • Involvement in at least one student organization within the College of Business
