We are delighted that you are interested in pursuing a BSBA degree at East Carolina University.

Although your first official step is to apply for admission to the university, we know that many of you visiting this page have already taken some college credits and are wondering if those credits will count toward your degree.

Freshmen

A freshman is a student who has never previously attended a college or university, or who will have completed fewer than 30 semester (45 quarter) hours of transferable work at a college or university at the time he or she proposes to enter East Carolina University. Transfer Students

A transfer is a student who will have attended a post-secondary institution and has a minimum of 30 semester (45 quarter) hours of transferable work at the time he or she proposes to enroll at East Carolina University. Transfer students must have a minimum 2.5 grade point average both overall and on the transferable courses, as computed by East Carolina. Applicants who will have completed fewer than 30 semester (45 quarter) hours prior to enrolling at ECU will also be required to meet the freshman requirements (high school grades, SAT/ACT scores, and minimum course requirements from high school). Transferring students are encouraged to apply after completing a minimum of one semester or quarter of full-time college-level course work.

"Effective Fall 2009, 123 hours are required to complete an undergraduate BSBA degree. A minimum of 30 semester hours (one-half of the total required hours in the BSBA concentration) must be completed through enrollment at ECU. One half of the required hours for the BSBA degree (62 semester hours); must be earned at a regionally-accredited senior college.

Former ECU Students (Readmit)

Students who were previously enrolled at ECU, left for any reason and any length of time, and wish to return must apply for readmission. Readmission to the university does not guarantee readmission to individual academic programs.

Regular - Any student previously enrolled, who left ECU for one or more semesters (excluding summer school), and did not attend another institution during the period away from ECU.

Transfer - Students enrolled at another college or university since their last enrollment at ECU. These students must submit transcripts indicating that a minimum 2.5 grade point average has been earned overall and on all transferable courses attempted. Transfer credit will be evaluated according to university policy.

After Academic Ineligibility - Students placed on academic suspension for one semester or more. Students who have less than a 2.0 GPA at ECU, or who are academically ineligible to return to ECU, must complete 30 semester hours of transferable work with a minimum 2.5 GPA in order to receive any transfer credit from another institution during the period away from ECU.

Note: Students with departmental "tags" on their records due to unpaid debts owed to the university, or other causes, cannot be readmitted until the tags have been removed.

Current ECU Students

If you desire to change your major to business, you will need to obtain your advising folder from your current academic advisor. Then, based on your cumulative GPA, call the appropriate advising center to schedule a meeting with your new academic advisor.

The academic advisors in the Academic Advising and Support Center specialize in working with undecided or reconsidering students. After you raise your GPA to a 2.0, you will be assigned a College of Business academic advisor.
