Title: The Quest for the Historical Jesus I
Event Start Date: Sunday, September 18, 2011
Event End Date: Sunday, September 18, 2011
Time: 9:30AM-10:15AM
Summary: Dr. Lee Johnson is an Assistant Professor of Religious Studies at ECU specializing in Biblical Studies. Her PhD is from the Toronto School of Theology and she taught at the Methodist Theological School in Ohio before she came to ECU in the fall of 2010.
Details:
For centuries, biblical scholars have embarked on various quests to answer such questions as: "What was the core of Jesus' teaching?", "What was his mission?", "How did he see himself?". In this session, we will first explore why the four gospel accounts provoke rather than answer such questions, looking at some of the parallels and differences between the gospel presentations of Jesus' life, teachings and activities. We will then look at how a few significant non-canonical writings, which were influential in the life of the early church, compare with the canonical writings.
