OBJECTIVES AND FUNCTIONS
The Curriculum Committee of the College of Arts and Sciences shall serve as a governing body over new or revised course and program proposals developed by the academic units (departments and curricula) within the College.
The Curriculum Committee shall have the power to approve without modification, approve with modification, or reject any course or program proposal developed by the individual departments or units within the College.
ORGANIZATION AND RELATIONSHIPS
The Committee shall consist of a representative from each department within the College. The manner of selection of the representatives shall be determined by each department, but each representative shall be a full-time faculty member of that department. Terms and rotation of representatives shall be specified in the by-laws.
The Committee shall have a Chair, Vice-Chair, and Secretary, who shall be chosen in such manner and for such terms as the Committee may provide in its by-laws.
The Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences or his/her appointed representative shall be an ex officio member of the Committee.
OPERATIONS
The Committee shall adopt its own by-laws.
The by-laws of the Committee shall provide for regularly scheduled meetings of the Committee, which will be held at a specified place and time.
Special meetings of the Committee may be called by the Chair of the Committee.
Records of the activities of the Committee shall be kept and transmitted to the appropriate officers of the Committee and to the office of the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences.
Proposals to be considered by the Committee shall be prepared in the manner outlined in the by-laws.
RATIFICATION AND AMENDMENT OF THE CHARGE
This charge shall be transmitted to the departments of the College of Arts and Sciences for inspection by the faculty of each department. The Charge shall become effective upon its ratification by two-thirds of the faculty present at an Arts and Sciences Faculty Meeting.
An amendment to the Charge may be introduced to the Committee by any member of the Committee. If approved by a majority of the authorized membership of the Committee, it shall be transmitted to the departments for inspection. An amendment shall become effective upon its ratification by two-thirds of the faculty present at an Arts and Sciences Faculty Meeting.
