YOUTH CIVIC ENGAGEMENT PROJECT
Under the sponsorship of the NC Civic Education Consortium, AMEXCAN, in collaboration with faculty from the ECU Department of Anthropology, is implementing the project Enhancing Civic Engagement Among Latino Youth in Eastern North Carolina. The project has the purpose of creating a network of youth groups that would serve as engines for youth participation in community affairs. The project will develop leadership skills among participants, engage youth as active and creative participants in community activities, and link youth groups to the local and state political institutions. The project includes youth ages 13-18 from Nash, Edgecombe, Wilson, Lenoir, Duplin, and Greene Counties.
