Research Overview

Research in the Danell lab is focused on fundamental studies and applications of mass spectrometry technology.  Mass spectrometry analysis occurs in a unique environment because there is no water or other solvent surrounding the molecules inside a mass spectrometer.  We are particularly interested in learning more about gas phase structure to further the application of mass spectrometry to problems of biological significance. Project areas include:

  • Using a Dual Polarity Dual nanoESI Quadrupole Ion Trap to Characterize Changes in Biomolecule Conformations from Solution to Gas Phase
  • ESI-induced Shifts in Metal-Peptide Equilibria
  • Collaborative research with colleagues in Pharmacology & Toxicology, Chemistry, and other areas
