Dr. Chia-yu Li, 64, died Wednesday Dec. 14, 2005. Dr. Li was born in Shanghai, China on May 5, 1941. He earned a B.S. degree (Chemistry) from Taiwan University (1963), M.S. (Analytical Chemistry) from the University of Louisville (1967), and Ph.D. (Analytical Chemistry) from Wayne State University (1972). His long and productive career at ECU began in 1973 as Assistant Professor, becoming Professor in 1984. Beginning in 1988, Dr. Li served with distinction as Chair of the Department of Chemistry. He published many articles in scientific journals and was a recipient of several ECU awards, including the 1996 Teaching Excellence Award, 2005 Founders Day Service Award and 2005 Educator Hall of Fame Award. Dr. Li had been a loyal Kiwanian since 1975. He served on numerous committees and on the Board of Directors, but his most notable contribution was serving as Chairman of the Scholarship Committee.
