Agenda Item 1. Speakers

Sept. 20, 4pm Bate 1032, Professor Gonda Van Steen, Director of Greek at the University of Arizona, and author of Venom in Verse: Aristophanes in Modern Greece will speak on "Eva Palmer and Greek Tragedy in Greece of the 1920s: An American woman and her productions of Aeschylus at Delphi". The committee approved a motion to co-sponsor a talk with ANTH for a talk in the near future.

Agenda Item 2. Changes to Majors

Prof. Stevens reported on updates to the majors to bring them into compliance with catalog requirements. These included changing the way foreign language is counted from being inside the hours required for the major to a separate 12 FL req. for the BA degree. This necessitated changing the Classics and BA Civ majors down to 30 s.h. The BS in Classical Studies, however, is required by the MULT degree to have 42 s.h. and as a result more elective hours needed to be added.

Agenda Item 3. NCJCL

The committee discussed possible sponsorship of the NC Junior Classical League but upon learning that the student union would be closed for renovations for two years, decided to delay its participation in that endeavor until renovations were complete.

Agenda Item 4. Majors and Courses of Interest

Prof. Stevens announced that the total number of majors was now up to 17 and that the GRBK 4000 seminar for spring would be team-taught by himself and D. Wilson-Okamura on the works of Virgil.
