Brian Glover's teaching and research concerns 18th-century British literature, public sphere theory, and ecocriticism. My dissertation, "The Public Sphere and Formal Nostalgia, 1709-1785," traced the rejection and repression of print-based publicity in writers who were working in print themselves. Now, I am at work on a project linking mid-eighteenth century interpretations of Virgil's Georgics to ideas of the local and global in Anglican sermons of the period, with special interest in the works of Joseph and Thomas Warton.
