Josh Hasty received his M.A. in English from East Carolina University in 2005 with a concentration in Rhetoric and Composition. His master's thesis, "Samus and the Man: A Feminist Analysis of Female Video Game Avatars," sought to establish a methodology for the feminist analysis of female player-controlled video game characters through investigation of primary sources as well as borrowing heavily from feminist film theory. His teaching experience encompasses a wide variety of English and composition courses at the university and two year college level.
