Joseph Horst joined the English faculty as a lecturer in the Spring of 2006. Working together with students and faculty of the English and Theater Departments, he held a reading of his Master’s thesis, Enemies, in November 2005 at the Emerge Gallery located in downtown Greenville. Enemies has won 7th place in the 76th Annual Writer’s Digest Writing Competition (Stageplay) in 2007 and recently received an Honorable Mention in the 2011 Ohio State University at Newark’s Inaugural Play Competition. Enemies was also workshopped in the Mendenhall Student Center at ECU in February 2008, raising over $1,500 for a local charity for fallen police officers. In 2012, Horst’s ten-minute play Calliope was performed in the Tenth Annual North Park Playwrights Festival (San Diego, CA) and the “8x10” Ten Minute Play Festival (Napa, CA).
