Kristi Southern was the Department's Outstanding Graduate Student in Spring 2004 and joined the faculty in August 2004. She served as treasurer of the English Graduate Student Organization and the ECU chapter of Sigma Tau Delta, the International English Honor Society. Her thesis dealt with African American and Jewish American character relations in contemporary literature.
