Mellisa Dempsey joined the faculty in fall 2008. She has taught Composition, Oral Communication, American Literature, and Writing for Business and Industry at Carteret Community College and Tiffin University. She was the former faculty leader of CCC’s Delta Delta chapter of Sigma Kappa Delta. She has also served as the lead mock trial coach for ECU's Mock Trial Team. She is most interested in children's literature (especially craft-based discussions), and she writes novels for Middle Grade and Young Adult markets.
