SUMMER PROGRAM IN CORDOBA, ARGENTINA 2009

Are you interested in completing Intermediate Spanish (1003-1004) in just 6 weeks?

Are you interested in enjoying the best 6 weeks of your life immersed in the culture of Argentina??

   Then, this program is calling YOU!

There are 2 sessions:

Session 1: May 11 – June 24   

Session 2: June 16 – July 30                                                                                 

Number of credits: 6 (Span.1003 and 1004)

Prerequisites:   Span 1002 (passed with a “C” or better), placement into 1003 or consent of the director.

IMPORTANT NOTE: If you happen to fail Span 1003, you will be sent home immediately, no refund given and any airfare difference will be at your own expense.

Number of students allowed into each session:  14

Total cost for the 6-week program, including international airfare (from Miami), home stay with 2 meals a day, weekend trips, plus ECU credits: $4120.

Payment schedule: $75 application fee (due at sign up); $745 due 12/31/07; $1100 due 1/31/08; $1100 due 2/28/08; $1100 due 3/31/08

 Classes will be held 4 hours a day, plus a conversation session (5 hrs. a week)

 The program will be carried out in Córdoba, provincial capital in the heart of the country. Second city in Argentina, Córdoba has a very rich history, architecture and beauty. Even though its population is over a million, it still has lovely small town flavor but with exciting attractions.

Included extra-curricular activities:

-City tour: Visit to points of interest, culminating with a luncheon.

-Tango dinner show and 2 tango classes

-1 half-day outing: Several possibilities are available depending on the group’s interest (hiking, horse-back riding, visit to museums)

-Visit to “El paseo de las artes”: it’s a well-known spot where one can purchase very good hand-crafted souvenirs at reasonable prices.

-Cultural activity: Argentinean cinema or a theatrical or musical show.

-Weekly soccer games

Weekend Trip 1:  La Cumbrecita- A beautiful small town nestled in the mountains in Cordoba province. Lots of hiking and outdoor activities. Maybe watch gauchos do their work at an “estancia” (Argentinean ranch)  and to partake of a typical “asado” (a very typical barbecue).

Note: all fees, tickets, meals and transportation are included.

 Weekend Trip 2: Salta - One of the oldest colonial cities with the northern Andes as its backdrop. City tour, visit to wineries in Calafate ,  tour to the Andes area and other points of interest.

 Weekend trip 3:  Buenos Aires- The country’s capital!

 Weekend trip 4: Iguazú Falls - The 8th wonder of the world!

No meals covered on weekend trips 2, 3 and 4
