SUMMER PROGRAM IN CORDOBA, ARGENTINA 2008

 

Summer 2007, Argentina

Session 1: May 14 - June 22, 2007
Session 2: June 11-July 20, 2007

Credits: 6 sh (SPAN 1003 and 1004)
Prerequisite: SPAN 1002 with a "C" or better, or placement into 1003 or consent of the director.

IMPORTANT NOTE: If you happen to fail SPAN 1003, you will be repatriated immediately, no refund given and any airfare difference will be at your own expense.

Number of students allowed into each session: 15

Total cost to student for the 6-week program, including international airfare, home stay with 2 meals a day, weekend trips, plus ECU credits: $3680

Payment schedule: $75 application fee (due at sign up); $605 dues 12/31/07; $1000 due 1/31/08; $1000 due 2/29/08; $1000 due 3/31/08

PROGRAM

Classes will be held 4 hours a day plus a conversation class (5 hrs. a week)

The program will be carried out in Córdoba, provincial capital in the heart of the country. Second city in Argentina, Córdoba has a very rich history, architecture and beauty. Even though its population is over a million, it still has a lovely small town flavor but with exciting attractions.

Argentinian Andes

Included extra-curricular activities:

  • City tour: Visit to points of interest, culminating with a luncheon.
  • Tango show and class that includes a dinner
  • Dinner at a restaurant that specializes in local cuisine
  • Half-a-day outing: Several possibilities are available depending on the group's interest (hiking, horse-back riding, visit to museums, etc.)
  • Visit to El paseo de las artes: it's a well-known spot where one can purchase very good hand-crafted souvenirs at reasonable prices.
  • A second tango class to reinforce your knowledge of the steps.
  • Cultural activity: Argentinean cinema or a theatrical or musical show.
  • Show of folkloric music: an evening of live music, traditional dances and typical foods.
  • Weekend Trip 1: Visit to well-known places relevant to Latin-American history (the Jesuit Route); visit to a couple of estancias and the mountains. Stay at one of the estancias (Argentinean ranch) to watch gauchos do their work and to partake of a typical asado (a very typical barbecue).
Caminito, 2007
  • Weekend Trip 2: Mendoza - visit to wineries, city tour, travel to the Andes to view the Aconcagua (highest peak in the Americas). Transportation, lodging and tours included.
  • Weekend Trip 3: Buenos Aires, the country's capital. Three days, transportation, lodging and tours included.
  • Weekend Trip 4: Iguasáu Falls, the 8th wonder of the world! Transportation, lodging and tours included.
  • No meals covered on weekend trips 2, 3, and 4
