The Russian National Ballet: Giselle. Village maiden Giselle loves Loys who is actually a betrothed nobleman disguised as a peasant. When Giselle discovers the deceit, her heart breaks in madness and she dies. Yet her love for Loys protects him form the wicked magic of the Wilis, vampirie ghosts of betrothed girls betrayed by their lovers.

The Department of English, Linguistics and TESOL present the sixth annual TALGS Conference (TESOL / Applied Linguistics Graduate Students), a student-run conference aimed to proved a serious yet relaxed environment for graduate students and professionals to present their work, receive feedback, and network. Submisssions from graduate students and educators welcome, on topics from language use, language learning and/or language teaching from a variety of fields, including English studies, education, foreign languages, sociolinguistics, anthropology, discourse studies, women's studies, speech & hearing sciences, sociology, and psychology. Presentations reporting on action research (inside and outside the classroom), works in progress, and pilot research, as well as proposals for discussion session and workshops are also welcome. Proposal deadline: December 7, 2008. Pre-registration deadline: January 18, 2009. Pleanary Speaker: Dr. Jodi Crandall, U. Maryland Baltimore County.
