My primary interest lies in providing a solid foundation to elementary and intermediate level language students. I am particularly proud of the Modified Foreign Language Program that I began in the fall of 2000 to serve the needs of learning disabled and other at risk students. The program helps East Carolina University to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act by helping these students to satisfy the university's foreign language requirement for the BA degree.
My colleague, Ann Borisoff-Rodgers, and I have recently developed a series of workshops for foreign language teachers to share with them some of the successful techniques and strategies that we employ in our modified FL program. We presented a "Foreign Language Strategies Workshop" at the Hill Center in Durham, NC on Sept. 22, 2003. The workshop was held for college/university and high school educators to address the needs of LD/ADD students in the foreign language classroom.
