AREAS OF INTERESTVergil, Plato, Stoicism, Seneca, Xenophon Professor Stevens is author of a Bryn Mawr Commentary on Cicero's Somnium Scipionis as well as articles on classical philosophy and literature. They include two pieces on Stoic psychology in Greek, Roman & Byzantine Studies and Ancient Philosophy, a chapter on Xenophon's Socratic dialogue, Oeconomicus, in The Socratic Movement (Cornell 1995), and one on the Hellenistic background of Seneca's use of allegory in Phoenix. He is currently at work on a monograph on Vergil's Aeneid and its debt to Platonism, and an article on the imagery of the Dream of Scipio. He has been State Vice President for the Classical Association of the Middle West and South (CAMWS), and has served on the Board of Directors of the North Carolina Classical Association. In Spring 2004, he received the University Award for Outstanding Teaching.
