Required Materials: Chez Nous textbook (978-0131920262) and workbook (978-0131917613)

These three classes are part of ECU's elementary French language sequence. The sequence aims at developing students’ four skills: reading, writing, listening and speaking in French. In addition to aquiring these skills, students also learn about French and Francophone culture using the language as a communication tool.

Culture and Communication

Prerequisite: French 1004

Required Materials: Cinéphile textbook (978-1-58510-258-7) and workbook (978-1-58510-275-4)

This class will be conducted entirely in French.  We will be learning about French and Francophone culture through French film and contemporary media.  In addition to viewing seven films, we will be consulting contemporary French websites (for French newspapers and broadcasts) in order to conduct a broad discussion of French and Francophone culture.  Please contact Professor Marylaura Papalas for further questions.

French 2330

Review of Grammar

Prerequisite: French 1004 or equivalent

Required Materials: Grammaire Française, 4ème édition (978-1428229587)

This class will be conducted entirely in French.  French 2330 is an intensive review of French grammar. Students consolidate grammar tools as well as experience the language in its cultural contexts (articles, videos, some literary texts…).  Please contact Professor Anne-Hélène Miller for further information.
