NCView provided support to purchase imagery used in a study aimed at mapping North Carolina seagrass. The State of North Carolina is interested in establishing a baseline spatial coverage of seagrass in their estuarine system. A combination of boat-based surveying methods and remote sensing is currently being developed to map seagrass and the satellite remote sensing imagery used in the study were obtained compliments of USGS funds administered through NCView. The results of the study identified a water depth threshold where remote sensing was able to accurately map seagrass. This threshold was important because it will help the project identify areas where boat-based methods should be employed to map seagrass in North Carolina.
