Called to order: 9:30

1. Announcements: Helena Federer will be the new director. Anne-Helene will be leaving, going to Vermont. UNC writing center has excellent handouts online.
 

2. Discussion: how to build visibility, more of a presence? In the Honors College? Leadership issue; Great Books of leadership? Perhaps classics of Public Management?
 

3. Annual Report. Approved
 

4. Discussion: Assessment. Rubric? What is a “C” paper? Summary. “B” paper? Summary + Synthesis. “A” paper? C+B; Step back and find linkages to other writings; make an argument? Implications? Spalding suggested an assignment to write on truth versus strength: Use the Plato/Thrasymachus conflict to interpret the Lincoln/Douglas debate Point: Interpreting texts and comparing underlying arguments.
