Interested in teaching History/Social Studies in a North Carolina public school? Consider the Masters of Applied Teaching program at ECU.

Students in the MAT program:

-earn a BA in History from the Department of History (a four-year degree)

-earn an MAT from the College of Education (a one-year degree).

Combining a BA in History with a Masters of Applied Teaching offers significant advantages:

- More and more, states (including NC) are requiring teachers to demonstrate mastery of a subject, not just of teaching technique. A degree in History gives you the opportunity to gain a deep understanding of the subject.

- For an extra year of study, you earn a graduate degree. Licensed teachers with graduate degrees earn more than their counterparts with undergraduate degrees.

Talk to your advisor about the value of a History BA and an MAT.
