The Coastal and Marine Studies program is designed to provide students with an overview of coastal and marine environments. Biological and physical systems are emphasized. In addition, considerable attention is devoted to the sociology and economics of coastal communities, marine policy issues, and America's involvement with the oceans. Whenever possible, information from North Carolina's coastal and marine environment is used to illustrate or emphasize important concepts. The program of study includes required courses in coastal and marine studies and in geology and elective courses in anthropology, biology, coastal and marine studies, geography, geology, exercise science, and planning.
