Foreign Language and Research Skills Requirement
To demonstrate reading competency in a foreign language students are required to translate several pages of foreign mathematics into English. Use of a dictionary is permitted.
Students may choose to satisfy the Graduate School’S Research Skills Requirement as an alternative to the Foreign Language Requirement. This is done by completing additional coursework specific to the area of concentration, as specified below:
• Mathematics concentration: MATH 5031 (Applied Statistical Analysis)
• Statistics concentration: PHIL 2274 (Business Ethics), PHIL 3281 (Introduction to Philosophical Ethics in the Health Care Professions), or a computer science programming course approved by the Director of Graduate Studies. (Credit will not be allowed for courses taken as an undergraduate.)
• Mathematics in the Community College: one computer science programming course (which may be taken as an undergraduate) and MATH/CSCI 5774 (Programming for Research)
