About the Office of Research
Mission: To support externally funded research and related activity among Arts and Sciences faculty, while promoting College compliance with University and external research-related requirements.
Advances in research discovery and scholarly efforts at HCAS ECU span coastal studies, mathematics, health disparities, genetics and genomics, translation of medieval literature, STEM for girls, teacher training through collaborations with area schools and economic development with industry. External grant awards support the education and research of doctoral students and research and creative activities for graduate and undergraduate students. Innovation and creativity are the hallmarks of the distinguished faculty at ECU. The Office of Research in HCAS provides faculty and staff with expert preaward services and tools, resources, support and training for successful proposal submission and tracking. The Office Research is overseen by the Associate Dean for Research with assistance from the Grants Program Specialist.

The Associate Dean for Research serves as the chief officer responsible for promoting investigator-initiated scholarship within the faculty. She facilitates basic science, translational, and clinical research within the school and in conjunction with other research institutions. The associate dean directs the faculty in planning and securing resources, evaluating and implementing activities for the research program, and managing the procurement of funds. She also serves as a School representative both internally and externally and actively participates in various Institutional planning, implementing, and evaluating research activities.

The Grants Program Specialist serves Arts and Sciences faculty and staff with a primary focus on proposal development, proposal submission and related training. The Specialist serves as the liaison between OSP and the PI/PD during the proposal development and submission processes. In addition the Specialist coordinates training opportunities and quality circle reviews, develops research-related policies and procedures, communicates changes to federal opportunities, disseminates funding opportunities, and updates the OOR website.
